You can upload your phone address book to the Supertooth 3 and it will read out the name of the person who is calling you.
Click the links below for more help with the caller name announce feature on the BlueAnt Supertooth 3.
Many phones can automatically copy your phonebook to the Supertooth 3. This happens immediately after pairing with your phone. If you make changes to your phonebook, then you must copy across the updated details by doing the following:
If your phone asks you whether you want to copy or cut the contacts, you must select copy, not cut.
Some phones do not support the automatic transfer. If this is the case, the Supertooth 3 will announce: "Automatic transfer not supported by phone. Please refer to manual or press red button to cancel phonebook transfer."
If this is the case on your phone, then you can initiate a manual transfer. Alternatively, press the End/Reject button to use the Supertooth 3 without the caller name announce feature. The Supertooth 3 will read out the caller's number instead (if the number is available).
If the automatic phonebook transfer fails on your phone, do the following:
If your phone asks you whether you want to copy or cut the contacts, you must select copy, not cut.
On some phones you can use a special Transfer Address Book option instead. This is available by going to the list of paired Bluetooth devices, selecting the Supertooth 3, and choosing the Transfer Address Book option from the menu.
Depending on how your phone is configured, you may find that the Supertooth 3 reads out the caller's last name first and then the first name. For example, you hear the Supertooth 3 read out "Call from Smith, John" rather than "Call from John Smith".
If this is happening to you, you can usually fix it by changing a setting on your phone, resetting your Supertooth 3 to delete the previously uploaded contacts and then pairing your phone with the Supertooth 3 again:
Once you have completed this process, you can change the display and sort order on your phone back to your preferred setting, as this will not affect the contacts already copied to the Supertooth 3. However, should you do this you must remember to change the setting back to First, Last before re-synchronizing your contacts with the Supertooth 3 in future.
If you are an Apple iPhone user and you are having trouble copying your contacts to the Supertooth 3, we recommend that you update your iPhone to at least software version 3.0.
You can download and apply the software update to your iPhone by connecting your iPhone to your computer and then clicking the Check for Update button in iTunes. When prompted, click Download and Install, and keep your iPhone connected to your computer while the installation completes.
After you have updated your iPhone, we recommend that you do the following:
When the pairing process completes, the iPhone should automatically start sending contacts to the Supertooth 3.
By default, Android phones require users to agree to phonebook access requests.
This means that when your Supertooth 3 attempts to copy or update your contacts (for example it does this immediately after pairing), a "Phonebook access request" notification will appear at the top of your phone screen.
If this message appears, access the notification by dragging down from the top of the screen and then select the option to allow your BlueAnt device to access your phone contact details and call history. If you do not agree to the access request then the Supertooth 3 will not be able to announce the name of the incoming caller.
Tip: When you agree to the request, make sure that the "Always Allowed" checkbox is selected. This ensures that the Supertooth 3 will be able to update its copy of your phonebook in future without you having to agree to the request again.
The maximum number of contacts that can be stored in the Supertooth 3 for each pairing is 1792.
If you have more than 1792 contacts stored in your phone you can still upload them to the Supertooth 3, but it will only correctly announce the names of the first 1792 contacts.
Contacts are uploaded to the Supertooth 3 in the same order they are sorted on the phone, so if you have more than 1792 contacts and your phone sorts your contacts alphabetically, the contacts towards the end of the alphabet will not be copied across.
Please note: if you have multiple phone numbers associated with a single contact in your phone, then each number counts towards the limit. For example, if you have a home, work, and mobile number stored for a single contact in your phone, then this counts as three separate contacts when you upload the details to the Supertooth 3.
The Supertooth 3 will only store any given phone number once. This means that if you have two separate contacts in your phone associated with the same number, the second one to be uploaded to the Supertooth 3 will replace the first one.
